ACP celebrates winners of 2019 Herbert S. Waxman Chief Resident Teaching Scholarships

Philadelphia, April 8, 2019 – The American College of Physicians (ACP) is honoring six chief residents as winners of the Herbert S. Waxman Chief Resident Teaching Scholarships at Internal Medicine Meeting 2019, ACP’s annual scientific meeting taking place April 11-13 in Philadelphia.

Washington, DC (March 28, 2019) — The American College of Physicians (ACP) applauds U.S. District Court Judge, James Boasberg, for blocking Medicaid work requirements in Kentucky and Arkansas. ACP firmly believes that work requirements, which would make employment or other activities a condition of Medicaid eligibility, should never be a prerequisite to receive insurance coverage.

Philadelphia, March 26, 2019 – The American College of Physicians (ACP) has released Caring With Compassion, a free online learning activity focusing on care for socioeconomically disadvantaged populations.

Internal medicine residency match increases slightly from last year, but policies still needed to ensure patient access to general internists

Philadelphia, March 15, 2019 -- The 2019 Main Residency Match revealed that internal medicine remains the largest training specialty, offering one-quarter (25.2 percent) of all PGY-1 positions in the Match. Internal medicine programs offered a record high 8,116 categorical positions and 396 primary care positions, an increase of 574 categorical positions (7.6 percent) and 22 primary care positions (5.9 percent) from the 2018 Match. Of these positions, 7,733 (97.7 percent) were filled, 3,424 (44.3 percent) by U.S. medical school seniors.

These significant changes to Title X will jeopardize access to health care for vulnerable, often working, low-income patients who may have limited to no access to health insurance. These changes will also harm the patient-physician relationship.
