These tools work together to reinforce your knowledge and improve your confidence in tackling the LKA.
Flashcards
What are MKSAP flashcards?
MKSAP flashcards feature adaptive learning technology to reinforce knowledge through repeated exposure to key concepts. Pre-built decks eliminate the need for copying and pasting, and the periodic check-in feature helps you track progress and focus on areas needing review. Flashcards adjust dynamically as you learn, ensuring a personalized study experience.
How does the adaptive algorithm work?
The adaptive algorithm in MKSAP flashcards works by tailoring the frequency of flashcard reviews based on your selections as you answer each flashcard:
- Red: If you choose Red, the flashcard will appear more frequently to reinforce learning.
- Yellow: Choosing Yellow signals moderate confidence, so the card will reappear regularly for review.
- Green: Marking Green reduces the frequency of that card, as the algorithm assumes you're confident in the material.
The algorithm dynamically reorganizes and shuffles your flashcards, prioritizing concepts that need more practice while gradually reducing exposure to material you’ve learned.
Can I create my own flashcards?
MKSAP does not currently allow for user-created flashcards. MKSAP flashcards are pre-built with key concepts selected from the content, saving you time and ensuring a comprehensive study experience.
Do flashcards include explanations?
Yes, flashcards include explanations. After selecting "Reveal Answer," you can:
- Tap the Related Text link to view the associated syllabus content in a modal.
- Tap the More button (three dots in the upper right corner) and select Related Text.
Can I reset my flashcard progress?
Yes, you can reset your flashcard progress. Select the content area, tap the More menu (three dots in the upper right corner), and choose Reset Deck Progress. Note that resetting will erase all performance data, and this action cannot be undone.
Tracker Assignments
What is Tracker?
Tracker is a free enhancement to MKSAP designed as an educator’s toolbox. It allows program directors and educators to:
- Monitor residents’ progress as they work through MKSAP multiple-choice questions.
- Organize residents into groups for easier management.
- Assign MKSAP questions to groups or individuals, which appear directly in the residents’ MKSAP accounts for completion.
- Review performance using detailed reports and comparison tools to evaluate individual or group progress.
Tracker also helps programs meet their documentation needs by serving as a reliable source for tracking and documenting resident performance.
How can I complete Tracker assignments?
Access the Tracker assignment via the "Assignments" section in your MKSAP account. Answers submitted elsewhere (e.g., Questions or Custom Quizzes) will not count toward progress on the assignment. When you have answered all the questions assigned to you, you will see a confirmation that the assignment has been completed and recorded within Tracker.

How can I submit credits and points?
The American College of Physicians is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. To earn CME credit and MOC points, answer at least one of two questions correctly (earning a score of at least 50%). Each single ACP MKSAP self-assessment question qualifies for 0.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and ABIM MOC points. Enter your answers by accessing the MKSAP Questions through the left-panel Questions Bank tab. Start answering randomized questions from all content areas by clicking "Answer Questions," or choose a content area to answer questions on that content. When you qualify for CME credit and are ready to submit, click the CME/MOC/CPD tab in the left-panel menu. Use the "Claim Credit Now" button to submit. Learners should keep in mind their yearly CME and MOC deadlines when determining the appropriate time to submit. You can track your CME/MOC submission progress and print out certificates on the ACP MKSAP CME/MOC/CPD page.
Where can I find my CME/MOC submission history?
When you claim Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits and/or American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) points, they will appear on your CME/MOC/CPD dashboard. You can view or print your submission history by year.
Why don’t I see my MOC points on my ABIM transcript?
The American College of Physicians (ACP) serves as the accredited provider of CME for MKSAP and maintains official records for all CME credits earned and submitted. However, the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) is responsible for implementing and managing all Maintenance of Certification (MOC) points.
When you submit for MOC points through MKSAP, we send your information directly to ABIM. They are responsible for receiving, processing your data, and officially tracking and awarding MOC points.
Because of this, MOC points will not appear on your transcript immediately after submission. Please allow approximately 2 weeks for processing before your MOC points are reflected on your ABIM transcript.
How do I submit for MOC in Canada and CPD in Australia?
More details about how to submit for continuing education credit outside the U.S. are available on MKSAP's CME page.
