ACP Global Ambassador reflections by: Irma Luisa Ceja Martínez, MD, FACP
I was honored to serve as ACP Global Ambassador at the Bolivian Society of Internal Medicine's (SOBOLMI) XV National Congress. SOBOLMI leadership were very amiable and generous hosts. Dr. Lourdes Escalera, President of SOBOLMI at that time, Dr. Jose Guzman Torrico, President-elect, Dr. Carlos Ibañez Guzman, committee, and staff were all very helpful and gracious throughout the meeting. There was much excitement and gratitude for ACP and its willingness to send an Ambassador to the meeting. In addition to my talks on Diabetes in Women and Intimate Partner Violence and its Impact on Cardiovascular Health, I was also given a 20-minute slot to talk about ACP, where I had the opportunity to share ACP's mission, vision, priority goals, plus the programs and all that ACP has to offer.
On Friday we were invited to visit the iconic Cristo de la Concordia Monument on top of a hill from where impressive views of the city can also be appreciated. In that same place a late dinner took place Friday night with around 100 physicians including SOBOLMI leadership. We had the opportunity to share more about the medical situation in Bolivia and talk about ACP. Many physicians in Bolivia have had the opportunity to study internal medicine or a subspecialty in México so that also created a bond.
