Taiwan Society of Internal Medicine Meeting
December 3-4, 2016
Taipei, Taiwan
I was honored to give the keynote address at the Taiwan Society of Internal Medicine Meeting in Taipei, Taiwan on December 4th, 2016. Taiwan has approximately 40,000 physicians, of which 10,000 are internists. Most of these internists attend this annual meeting for two days of education and credit for licensure and certification. The meeting covered all the subspecialties of internal medicine and a workshop on hand held ultrasound. My talk on “Cancer Screening Guidelines 2016-17” was well received with several questions.
I received a tour of the Taiwan Medical Center in Taipei. They have a 2,000 bed general hospital in addition to a separate children and women’s hospital. Their cardiac institute is state of the art with 2,000 angioplasty and stent per year, bypass, non-invasive cardiac technology, 30 bed intensive cardiac care unit along with cardiac transplant.
Dr. Wang, his colleagues, and staff ran an excellent meeting and took care of every detail of our stay in Taipei. Taiwan is a country of kind, ambitious, and educated people with a flourishing economy and culturally enriched society.
