Executive Committee of the Governor’s Council

The primary charge of the Executive Committee is to:

  • Act as a steering committee for the Governor’s Advisory Council
  • Assist the Governor with plans to implement recommendations from the Governor’s Advisory Council.
  • Assist the Governor to mobilize Advisory Council Members to participate in national and local activities supporting College priorities.
  • Assist the Governor in the planning the Governor’s Advisory Council meetings.
  • Advise the Governor and the Treasurer on chapter dues rates.
  • Provide guidance to Local Nominating Committee on the candidate selection process for Governor-elect and other Advisory Council elections.

Awards Committee

Chair: Dr. Christine Seibert, MD, MACP

The primary charge of the Awards Committee is to:

  • Oversee the annual Chapter Award nomination and selection process including review of all nominations and identification of candidates who fit awards criteria.
  • Identify the candidate for each Chapter Award who best meets criteria for each award and forward these candidates to be reviewed and confirmed by the Governor and the Advisory Council.
  • Review the existing ACP Chapter Awards and advise the Governor and Advisory Council about awards procedures.
  • Recommend to the Governor and Advisory Council new Chapter awards that are consistent with Council objectives.
  • Identify Chapter members who are competitive candidates for ACP National awards.
  • Identify Wisconsin ACP Fellows who are candidates for Mastership and recommend these candidates to the Governor.

Council of Medical Student Members

The primary charge of the Council of Medical Student Members is to:

  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on promoting Internal Medicine as a career to medical students in Wisconsin.
  • Promote the value of ACP membership to medical students.
  • Strengthen Chapter and medical school level activities for student members of Internal Medicine Interest Groups (IMIG) at all Wisconsin campuses.
  • Advise the Governor and Advisory Council on programs and policy that promote increased well-being and professional satisfaction among student members
  • Collaborate with ACP Wisconsin Committee chairs to promote student participation and membership in Chapter Committees

Council of Resident and Fellow Members

Liaison: Dr. Amalia Lyons, MD, FACP
Liaison: Dr. Blair Golden, MD

The primary charge of the Council of Resident and Fellow Members is to:

  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on ways to align council activities with the College's Strategic Plan to increase the engagement of Resident and Fellow Members.
  • Advocate on behalf of Resident and Fellow members through Chapter level activities to enhance the quality of Internal Medicine post graduate training in Wisconsin.
  • Promote the value of ACP membership among Resident/Fellow members.
  • Advise the Annual Meeting Planning Committee in the planning and execution of the Doctor’s Dilemma Competition.
  • Advise the Governor and Advisory Council on programs and policy that promote increased well-being and professional satisfaction among Internal Medicine Resident and Fellow members

Council of Early Career Physicians

Chair: Dr. Jennifer Woodard, MD

The primary charge of the Council of Early Career Physicians is to:

  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on strategies to enhance professional development for Early Career Physicians.
  • Foster the involvement of Early Career Physicians in College activities. • Increase the value of ACP membership for Early Career Physicians.
  • Advise the Governor and Advisory Council on programs and policy that promote increased well-being and professional satisfaction among Early Career Physician members

Finance Committee

Chair: Rupesh Prasad, MD, FACP

The primary charge of the Finance Committee is to:

  • Develop and recommend to the Governor and the Advisory Council fiscal policies and practices for the proper conduct of the operations of the Chapter.
  • Recommend annual operating and capital budgets for subsequent approval by the Council.
  • Recommend the engagement of an independent accounting firm, investment managers and investment evaluation consultants when needed.
  • Routinely evaluate the actual financial results being achieved by the individual investments of the Chapter.
  • Recommend independent external auditor of the Chapter’s financial reports and policies for Council approval.
  • Review and approve the audit report for subsequent approval by the Council when requested to do so.

Health and Public Policy Committee

Chair: Sophie Kramer, MD, FACP
Vice Chair: Jennifer Mackinnon, MP, FACP

The primary charge of the Health and Public Policy Committee is to:

  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on policy regarding state or local public policies broadly affecting the health of the public, individual patients, and the practice of medicine.
  • Develop and implement Chapter policies to respond to Advocacy Toolkits from ACP National.
  • Coordinate Chapter participation in ACP Leadership Day and Doctors Day including recruiting participants.
  • Encourage Chapter participation in the Advocates for Internal Medicine Network.
  • Coordinate with the Wisconsin Medical Society and other state professional organizations on policy that is consistent with ACP priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Governor to prepare responses to requests for Chapter support including letters from the Governor and Council related to state legislation and agency activities in a manner consistent with ACP National Policy.
  • Coordinate communication to Chapter Council and Membership regarding opportunities to participate in direct advocacy in the form of letters to state and federal legislators.
  • Develop and review resolutions

Hospitalist Committee

Chair: Dr. Sanjay Bhandari, MD

The primary charge of the Hospitalist Committee is to:

  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on strategies to enhance the quality of hospital care for patients throughout Wisconsin.
  • Foster the involvement of Hospitalist Physicians in College activities by enhancing networking opportunities for Internal Medicine specialists practicing Hospital Medicine across Wisconsin.
  • Raise awareness among Hospitalists about the value of ACP membership to support their clinical practice and professional development.
  • Promote education, research, and advocacy opportunities for Hospitalist physicians.

International Medical Graduate Committee

Chair: Dr. Abdul Wahab Arif, MD
Vice Chair: Dr. Rohan Badapati, MD

The primary charge of the International Medical Graduate Committee is to:

  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on strategies to enhance professional development and increase involvement in ACP activities by International Medical Graduate Physicians.
  • Encourage IMG Members to become mentors to early career IMG Members as well as Residents, Post Graduate Fellows, and IMG students seeking further training.
  • Advocate for Chapter policy and programming that is responsive to the changing environment and needs of International Medical Graduate physicians.
  • Increase awareness of the value of ACP membership for International Medical Graduate Physicians.

Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee

Chair: Dr. Ridhwi Mukerji, MD, FACP

The primary charge of the DEI Committee is to:

  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on strategies to assure integration of diversity and inclusion across the Chapter’s governance.
  • Advocate for Chapter policy and programming that is responsive to the needs of the diverse communities in which our Members live and work.
  • Advise the Governor and Advisory Council on strategies that will enhance professional development opportunities and increase involvement in ACP activities by members from diverse communities.

Local Nominations Committee

Chair: Dr. Noel Deep, MD, MACP

The primary charge of the Local Nominations Committee is to:

  • Identify and recruit qualified candidates to participate in an election for Governor-elect following a process as directed by the Chapter leadership, bylaws and ACP National.
  • Identify and recruit qualified candidates to participate in elections for the Governor’s Council following a process defined by the Chapter leadership and bylaws.
  • Ensure the composition of the Governor’s Council is diverse based on race/ ethnicity, gender, practice (academic and non-academic), and setting ( urban/ rural).

Medical Student Committee

Chair: Dr. Prabhav Kenkre, MD
Vice Chair: Dr. Hari Paudel, MD

The primary charge of the Medical Student Committee is to:

  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on promoting Internal Medicine as a career to medical students in Wisconsin.
  • Collaborate with ACP Wisconsin Council of Student Members to promote student participation and membership in ACP.
  • Support Chapter and medical school level activities for student members of IMIG groups at all Wisconsin campuses.
  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on ways ACP can enhance the quality of Internal Medicine student training in Wisconsin.
  • Collaborate with Resident Committee to support the Annual Chapter Scientific Program Oral and Poster abstract competition by assisting with recruitment and coordination of judges.

Membership Committee

Chair: Dr. David Bleidorn, MD, FACP
Vice Chair: Thomas Shiffler, MD, FACP

The primary charge of the Membership Committee is to:

  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on approaches to promote and advance the continued growth and diversity of all classes of membership, to ensure that all members can share in ACP's material and intellectual resources.
  • Work to advance all eligible Members to Fellowship.
  • Collaborate with all Chapter Councils and Committees that engage with the various demographics of Chapter Members (Medical Students, Resident and Fellow Members, Early Career Physicians, Women’s Committee, etc.) to facilitate recruitment and retention of such Members in ACP.
  • Gain an understanding of the needs and aspirations of Internal Medicine specialists at various career stages to better inform membership growth and retention strategies for all career stages.

Resident/ Fellow Committee

Chair: Dr. Farah Kaiksow, MD, FACP
Vice Chair: Dr. Katherine Reimer, MD, FACP

The primary charge of the Resident/Fellow Committee is to:

  • Advise the Governor and Advisory Council on strategies to support Chapter Resident and Fellow members across all Wisconsin residency programs including recruiting Chapter Members to become mentors.
  • Collaborate with ACP Wisconsin Council of Resident and Fellow Members to promote participation and membership in ACP among residents and fellows.
  • Strengthen Chapter relationships with residency/fellowship post graduate training programs.
  • Collaborate with the Health and Public Policy Committee to create opportunities for resident and fellow members to participate in advocacy at the state and national level.
  • Coordinate the Annual Chapter Scientific Program Oral and Poster abstract competition.

Resolutions Committee

Chair: Sophie Kramer, MD, FACP

The primary charge of the Resolutions Committee is to:

  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on local policy and practice issues that are suitable for BOG Resolutions and collaborate with the Governor to bring them forward to the BOG.
  • Make recommendations to the Governor and the Advisory Council on feedback related to ACP BOG Resolutions based on comments from the Chapter Members and Council.
  • Provide educational opportunities for Chapter Members on topics that may be suitable for future ACP BOG Resolutions.

Scientific/ Annual Meeting Planning Committee

Co-Chair: Dr. Andrew Calvin, MD, FACP
Co-Chair: Dr. Pinky Jha, MD, FACP

The primary charge of the Scientific/ Annual Meeting Planning Committee is to:

  • Advise the Governor and Chapter staff in the creation of the scientific program for the Chapter’s annual scientific meeting including recruitment of speakers and program design.
  • Propose innovative educational content that will enable Internal Medicine specialists to maintain and advance their knowledge and skills for the benefit of their patients.
  • Assist Chapter staff with preparation of MOC and CME applications.

Wellness Committee

Chair: Dr. Margaret Paulson, DO, FACP

The Primary Charge of the Physician Wellbeing and Professional Fulfillment Committee is to:

  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on policies to enhance member well‐being and professional fulfillment.
  • Advocate for Chapter policy designed to promote the well‐being and professional fulfillment of Internal Medicine specialists and their clinical teams.
  • Identify opportunities for further integration of well‐being best practices into ACP initiatives.

Women’s Committee

Chair: Dr. Abigail Bales, MD, FACP
Vice Chair: Julie Mitchell, MD, FACP

The primary charge of the Women’s Committee is to:

  • Advise the Governor and the Advisory Council on effective strategies to assure integration of women across the Chapter’s governance.
  • Advocate for Chapter policy and programming that is responsive to the changing environment and demographics of women physicians, their partners, and families.
  • Advise the Governor and Advisory Council on strategies that will enhance professional development, foster diversity, and increase involvement in ACP activities by women members.
  • Support the desire for all members, irrespective of gender, to participate in Chapter programming that is enriching and that recognizes the critical importance of worklife balance and the multiple roles many physicians fulfill at work and at home.
  • Lead efforts to promote Narrative medicine initiatives for Wisconsin ACP, including but not limited to the “In the Life of this Wisconsin Doctor" storyline series.
  • Assist the Awards Committee by identifying candidates for the Sharon Haase Advancement in Women’s Health Award and providing a recommendation to the Awards Committee of a candidate that best meets the criteria for the award.
