The American College of Physicians is seeking physician members to speak with Medical School Internal Medicine Interest Groups (IMIGs), through ACP’s Speakers’ Bureau, about the importance of choosing internal medicine as a career path. There will also be other opportunities to engage with residents and early career physicians.

Purpose:

There are approximately 150 IMIGs who receive funding and resources from ACP to allow community building and networking opportunities for medical students. You will be connected with an IMIG student leader to schedule a virtual or in-person talk with a group of students for the Fall or Winter semesters.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability and comfort speaking, virtually or in person, to groups of students or residents.
  • Flexibility with scheduling to accommodate student and resident schedules.
  • Skill to discuss internal medicine in primary care or hospital medicine; subspecialty discussion too.
  • Willingness to reach out to ACP staff if needed to address issues or support medical student members.
  • Be a resource to point students to the right source of information, i.e. ACP opportunity, academic information, or networking connection.

This opportunity is an ongoing opportunity available throughout the year, open to all members, done on your own schedule, and invest as much time as the member prefers. Must be a member in good standing.

Goal:

  • Support medical students’ and residents’ interest in internal medicine.
  • Educate members about why they should select internal medicine as a subspeciality.
  • Communicate how Internal Medicine physicians help patients manage their care and connect them with resources and services.
