Internal Medicine Meeting 2023: Mastering Medicine Together, was held in San Diego, California April 27-29, 2023 and had our second highest attendance of over 9,000 physicians. The event featured more than 200 sessions covering a wide variety of clinical and practice management topics for doctors of internal medicine and its subspecialties. 788 attendees from outside the United States came to the meeting. The top three countries outside the United States with the highest number of registrants were Canada, Mexico, and Dominican Republic.
ACP once again offered discounted individual registration rates, as well as specially priced delegation rates, for attendees from around the world. A total of seven delegations (10 or more physicians registered as a group) came from Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, India, Mexico, Panama, Sri Lanka, and Switzerland.
At the Convocation Ceremony on April 27, approximately 400 physicians were celebrated as new recipients of Fellowship and 58 were from 17 countries outside the United States. Approximately 95 members were recognized as recipients of Mastership or ACP named awards. The College bestowed Honorary Fellowships to 5 presidents of global internal medicine societies.
Following the ceremony, members, friends, and families gathered at the ACP Global Reception that included over 300 international internal medicine leaders and attendees along with ACP leaders. During the reception, Ryan D. Mire, MD, MACP, ACP President and Sue S. Bornstein, MD, MACP, ACP Chair, Board of Regents welcomed attendees and congratulated the 2022-2023 Global Physician Scholar Program awardees.
ACP was honored to host presidents and representatives of internal medicine societies from around the world. The international delegates were part of the stage party in the Convocation ceremony. They also participated in ACP's 16th Annual Global Forum moderated by Isaac O. Opole, MBChB, PhD, FACP, ACP Regent, titled “Profits vs. Patients: The global threat of rising drug prices.” The Forum provided an opportunity for ACP leaders and the presidents and special representatives from international internal medicine societies to share the challenges they face in their regions regarding drug costs.

On Friday afternoon, Darilyn Moyer, MD, MACP, FRCP, FIDSA, FAMWA, FEFIM and Dror Dicker, MD, FACP (Hon), Immediate Past-President of the European Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM), served as panelists and Ryan D. Mire, MD, MACP and Ricardo Gomez-Huelgas, FACP(Hon), EFIM President co-moderated “Evidence-Based Medicine and COVID-19: Global Health Lessons: A Joint session of ACP and the European Federation of Internal Medicine.” This session was also presented by the same faculty at the European Congress of Internal Medicine this past March.
On Saturday, new ACP officers started their terms. Omar T. Atiq, MD, FACP of Little Rock, Arkansas, became the 2023-24 ACP President; and Eileen D. Barrett, MD, MPH, SFHM, MACP, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, became the 2023-24 Chair of the Board of Regents; Stephen D. Sisson, MD, MACP, of Baltimore, Maryland, became the ACP President-elect; and William E. Fox, MD, FACP of Charlottesville, Virginia became the Chair-elect of the Board of Regents.
