Pain Management Learning Series
This interactive training series consists of 7 core modules and 2 sets of case studies.
Pain Management 5: Nonopioid Pharmacotherapy includes reviewing drug class selection for different types of pain, framing conversations with patients about pharmacotherapy options, and learning how to adjust pharmacotherapy choices for specific pain syndromes and individual patients. By the conclusion of this module, learners will be able to:
- Select the appropriate drug class for treating pain, taking into consideration the pain type, pain acuity, patient comorbidities, concurrent medications, medication access, and options for de-escalation of therapy.
- Frame a conversation with patients about selecting the best pharmacotherapy for their specific pain.
- Identify specific drug classes with proven efficacy for specific types of pain control and their potential adverse effects.
- Educate patients about the pharmacologic treatment of pain, including appropriate expectations, time frames, and benefits of de-escalation, when appropriate.
- Adjust pharmacotherapy choices for specific pain syndromes and individual patient considerations.
The 2024 rerelease of ACP's modules within the Pain Management Learning Series includes updated information and provides additional learning and credit earning opportunity for learners who claimed credit for earlier versions.
Modules and CME/MOC credit are free to ACP Members.
