Following the PHE, the Federal government and Congress took steps to extend pandemic-era telehealth flexibilities. Some of the flexibilities were made permanent while others are temporary. Several temporary telehealth flexibles are set to expire September 30, 2025, without Congressional action.
Some patients may not have access to video visits because they cannot access interactive audio-video technology, do not have reliable broadband, may not be facile with technology, or may prefer not to use video technology. Practices can use audio-only telephone calls to provide care for their patients if the patient is unable or does not consent to the use of video.
- Can be used for new or established patients.
- Document verbal consent and why an in-person or audio-video encounter was not possible.
