Congratulations on becoming a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. You may wish to share the news of your achievement by sending a news release to your local newspapers, medical society publications, alumni magazines, etc. Instructions for preparing and distributing a news release and standard news release templates, are available. You may opt to prepare the news release yourself or, if you are affiliated with an institution, to forward the information to its public relations department.
Please note that publication is never guaranteed, and editors probably will shorten your news release. However, many Fellows have had news about this career distinction published in their local newspapers, medical society journals, and other outlets by using the news release.
The official news release is carefully worded–please retain the format, especially when describing ACP and Fellowship.
There are two news release formats:
- “A” (“Doctor Elected Fellow of ACP”), which can be sent now,or
- “B” (“Doctor Inducted as Fellow of ACP”), appropriate for release after you are inducted at one of the next three ACP Internal Medicine Meetings. (If you use this news release, you could enclose a portrait in your academic regalia, since photography is available during the annual Internal Medicine Meeting.)
You may opt to use both news releases as events occur. Again, congratulations on your honor. Good luck with the news release. We hope to read about you in the press.
