Time-restricted eating (TRE) has been shown to produce weight loss and may provide cardiometabolic benefits, but prior studies have focused on relatively healthy adults with obesity. This clinical trial examines the effectiveness of TRE on glycemic control among adults with metabolic syndrome.

VEXAS Syndrome: Differentiating Flares from Infection in the Critical Care Setting
VEXAS (vacuoles, E1 enzyme, X-linked, autoimmune and autoinflammatory, and somatic) is an autoinflammatory condition that was described in 2020 in the New England Journal of Medicine by Beck et al. (1). VEXAS predominantly affects older males and is associated with dermatitis, polychondritis, fevers, and hematologic abnormalities.

Infectious Disease
Infectious disease medicine is the subspecialty of internal medicine that focuses on diagnosing and managing infections. Although most common infections are treated by general internal medicine physicians and other specialty physicians, internal medicine physicians practicing infectious disease medicine are frequently called upon to help diagnose unknown infections and assist in managing difficult, unusual, or complicated infections.

Dementia
Dementia, or major neurocognitive disorder, is defined as a decline in one or more cognitive domains that causes impairment in everyday function. Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia in the United States, occurring among an estimated 6.9 million adults aged 65 years or older. This article discusses the latest findings on prevention of cognitive decline. It also discusses dementia screening, diagnosis, and treatment as well as quality of life for persons with dementia and their caregivers.

Master the Physical Exam with Upper-Year Student Mentorship
The internal medicine interest group at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD, organized a physical exam mentorship session for first-year medical students. Utilizing the experience of upper-year students, 15 groups of three first-year students practiced exam maneuvers as upper years provided real-time feedback, tips, and clinical pearls.
