The Chapter Centennial Legacy Award celebrates ACP's centennial by recognizing one influential chapter member who served the chapter and made a significant impact on the chapter's viability. The award winner should exemplify ACP's core values, including leadership, excellence, respect, compassion, professionalism, and responsibility.
E. Richard Ensrud, MD, MACP served as a gastroenterologist at Carle Clinic in Urbana, IL, until he retired. He was the founding program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the University of Illinois in Urbana. Dr. Ensrud continues to serve on the University of Illinois College of Medicine committees and attends clinical conferences, such as Journal Club and Grand Rounds. He is a strong mentor to many, an advocate of trainees, and a committed supporter of ACP and internal medicine.
He serves on the ACP Illinois Downstate Awards Committee, and regularly attends ACP chapter and national meetings. Dr. Ensrud served as governor of the Illinois Southern Region from 1976-1980. He won the Illinois Southern's Laureate Award in 1990, and was awarded Mastership (MACP) in 2006.
