Doctor's Dilemma National Competition Judge

The American College of Physicians is seeking physician members to serve as judges for the Doctor's Dilemma Competition during ACP’s Internal Medicine Meetings.

The next meeting will be in New Orleans, LA, Thursday through Saturday, April 3-5, 2025.

ACP Doctor's Dilemma® is a medical knowledge-based, multi-round competition where teams of residents, representing chapters domestically and internationally, compete over three days at the Internal Medicine Meeting.

There is a specific number of judges needed, please check back in late Fall to apply.

Applicants for this role will need to select which day(s) of the competition they are available. Please be sure to verify your availability at the Internal Medicine Meeting before selecting the days you are available.

Purpose:

Judges serve as the authorized arbiters of the Doctor’s Dilemma competition. Judges are responsible for ensuring that all participants adhere to the rules and regulations and resolving any disputes that may arise during the competition in regard to questions, answers and overall sportsmanship.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend assigned Doctor’s Dilemma games
  • Work as a team with the moderator and fellow judges
  • Maintain order throughout the competition
  • Rule enforcement and dispute resolution

Qualifications:

  • Registered for the Internal Medicine meeting or planning to register
  • ACP member in good standing
  • Strong English language verbal skills
  • Post-residency internal medicine specialist or subspecialist
  • FACP credential preferred
  • Must have a broad knowledge of internal medicine and the ability to make confident, team-based decisions quickly
  • Diplomatic and comfortable working under pressure before a highly charged, energetic, and competitive audience
  • Attend virtual orientation prior to the meeting and one before competition onsite

Goal:

The competition brings together some of the brightest residents from around the world in a friendly but highly competitive environment. It tests the medical knowledge of up to 60 teams, each representing an ACP chapter, while fostering resident education across several knowledge areas of internal medicine.
