Document Title
ACP Response to CMS Innovation Center RFI on Direct Provider Contracting Models
Synopsis
As a follow-up to its request for information (RFI) on its \"new direction,\" CMMI issued another RFI requesting stakeholder feedback on direct provider contracting (DPC) models. In its response, the College emphasized the need for flexibility in design and was optimistic that a DPC-type model could improve care quality and contain costs while reducing administrative burden, but expressed concerns about possible adverse consequences, including attrition from existing models and access to care issues, particularly for vulnerable patient populations. The college recommended CMS closely study and monitor these areas and improve benchmarking, risk adjustment, and quality measurement methodologies with input from stakeholders before moving forward.
