Col Angelique N. Collamer, MC, USAF, FACP, ACP Governor
From The Governor – Farewell Letter
Dear Colleagues,
The last four years have gone by so quickly, and this is my final newsletter to you as your ACP Governor. Dr. Brian Neubauer and I are preparing to pass the leadership torch at the conclusion of the national meeting on 6 April. It has been such a privilege to serve you as Governor and I will miss this role deeply but will remain active in the chapter and always be available as one of your former Governors. Dr. Neubauer has completed a year of training to be your Governor, and I am grateful to be passing our chapter to his very capable hands.
When I decided to run for election to Governor over 5 years ago, the world was a very different place. Since that time, the unanticipated pandemic, social and economic instability, global threats of all kinds, and heavy military operational tempos have affected all of us. Despite these changes, I feel fortunate that the new world of online meetings allowed me to continue to serve and be present when I was unexpectedly assigned overseas during my first year as Governor, and I am appreciative of everyone who supported me during that transition. In particular, I cannot thank our past four years of tri-service planning committee members enough. These dedicated physicians stepped up to serve and sacrificed hours of their discretionary time to ensure we provided high quality and enjoyable annual scientific meetings. We got to know each other well during those weekly meetings and I will value the friendships and camaraderie formed lifelong (and never forget some of the jokes!). I know many of you will be future ACP governors and national leaders in internal medicine and I can't wait to see all of you succeed.
I am thankful for everyone who came forward during the past four years to serve our chapter - there are too many to name here and hopefully I will be able to see and thank many of you at the national meeting in April. I do want to recognize some of our precursor Society of Air Force Physicians members who have contributed to our history, culture and ability to recognize laureate physicians, including David Gremillion, George Crawford, George Meyer and Douglas Jenkins. Many thanks to those of you who served as officers of the chapter and on special committees including Brian Neubauer, John Hunninghake, Ian Stewart, Craig Yugawa, Alexandra Smith, Jamie Geringer, Joseph Yabes, Lacy Lowry, Derek Smith, Patrick Monahan, Ryan Collier, and Kathryn Burtson who took the lead on our joint highly successful Ohio and Air Force annual meeting. I appreciate the support of all our prior Governors and our MACP members in making the chapter a continuing success and helping promote our members for well-deserved awards and leadership positions.
As I prepare to leave the position as Governor, we are yet again facing times of uncertainty as large organizational changes in the DoD, Air Force, MHS and DHA occur, seemingly all at once. During this time of organizational stress, I encourage you to lean on the ACP and your internal medicine colleagues as your professional home, as together we will successfully navigate these challenges with a collective voice. Together we can emphasize that our core values have not changed, that our singular focus on doing the right thing at the right time for the patient has not changed, nor has providing safe and high-quality care for all. Operate under these principals, let them be your guiding light, and we will be stronger together. Despite driving forces, health care cannot be a commodity nor the delivery of it mechanized, and the value of your touch at the bedside and the ability to impact and influence another's life cannot be underestimated.
As I prepare to retire from 25 years military service this fall, I will always be available to you at angiecollamer@gmail.com I am proud to have served with all of you and look forward to hearing about the next steps in your journeys and careers. I hope to hear from you and see many of you at National ACP in New Orleans. As always, stick to the Core Values and Aim High!
Sincerely,
Angie

2025 Air Force Chapter Awards
Please contact Dr. Neubauer with your ideas and nominations for the distinctions of Master of the ACP and for 2025 Laurette awards for our chapter.
One of the goals of the American College of Physicians is to “recognize excellence and distinguished contributions to internal medicine.” As a way of achieving this goal, the College offers 23 national awards and a number of Masterships each year.
Nomination information can be found here.
Thank you again to Dr. Derek Smith for heading up our awards committee. Like to be involved next year? Let him know!
Interested in Fellowship (FACP®)?
Please check out the ACP webpage for more information about fellowship. Fellowship in the College is an honor. Being an FACP® is a distinction earned from colleagues who recognize your accomplishments and achievements over and above the practice of medicine. The most important considerations for ACP Fellowship are excellence and contributions made to both medicine and to the broader community in which the internist lives and practices.
The basic requirements to apply for fellowship are board certification, licensure, clinical practice for 3 years out of residency, and being a dues paying member for the previous 3 years. In addition, additional requirements include other professional activities – teaching, community service, leadership, scholarship, etc. Please contact me if you have any questions about how to achieve fellowship.
