Governor's Message
Dear ACP South Carolina Chapter Members,
2025 is off to a busy start with activities at both the SC Chapter and the national level.
First, I would like to thank everyone whose contribution made the annual Fall SC Chapter Meeting a success. I look forward to your participation and engagement in this year's meeting that will be held in Charleston, SC on October 17-18, 2025.
Thank you to the Council of Student and Resident Members and the Ultrasound Interest Group in collaboration with the ACP SC Chapter for putting on another successful Ultrathon course on POC ultrasound in January! We appreciate the participation and engagement of the attendees.
In preparation for the ACP Board of Governors' meeting in April, I requested input on the resolutions that would be discussed and debated. Thank you to the members who took the time to review the resolutions and submit comments. Your comments are appreciated as they assist me in representing the voice of our chapter.
Fourteen members have received their FACP in the ACP in the last 12 months. I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to you all for excellence in internal medicine, continued professional development, and a commitment to leading internal medicine and improving lives. To learn more about advancing to Fellowship, please visit Become an ACP Fellow (FACP®) on the ACP website.
We were privileged to welcome over 200 new members into our chapter in the last year. We are pleased you have made the ACP and the SC Chapter your professional home! The chapter council and I look forward to your engagement and we hope to continue to be of service to you.
We recently completed a membership drive on behalf of the ACP. I want to thank all the members who renewed their membership. I am grateful for your decision to continue your membership because we are stronger with your participation.
In Service,
Steve Saunders MBBS. FACP.

Chapter News
Chapter Treasurer

It is with great pleasure that I announce that effective February 11, 2025, Dr. Anne Cook became the treasurer of the SC Chapter. Dr. Cook is a longstanding member of the ACP serving in various roles including secretary and wellness champion. She has also served at various medical institutions, at both local and state medical societies and in civic organizations. She brings a wealth of knowledge to this position, and I am honored for the opportunity to work with her on the governor's advisory council. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Anne Cook.
Dr. Cook succeeds Dr. James Adamson in this role. Please join me in extending heartfelt thanks to Dr. James Adamson for his invaluable contributions to the SC Chapter and the ACP over many decades.
Advocacy
The ACP has always been at the forefront of advocacy for better care of our patients, access to care and improved working conditions for our members and physicians in general. There are ongoing topics that we continue to address such as physician reimbursement, patient access to care and GME financing. So far this year there have been an increased number of issues that the ACP has had to lend our voice to, either alone or in collaboration with other physician organizations such as the AAFP and the AAP to name a few. One example is Access to Federal Health Data and Resources. You can find the latest advocacy efforts from ACP by visiting Where We Stand, a one-stop collection featuring articles, statements and ways you can take action on various campaigns.
The ACP continues to rely on your assistance, and this can be done in many ways. First, join the Advocates for Internal Medicine network o receive ACP's action alerts directly and advocate for the interests of internal medicine in Washington.
Secondly, Registration is now open for ACP's annual national advocacy event on April 28-29 in Washington, DC. Help ACP increase its presence on Capitol Hill and advocate directly with Congress in support of legislation impacting internal medicine physicians and your patients. We share our experiences as we discuss the issues that need to be addressed to enhance the care we provide for our patients. I am encouraging all SC Chapter members to consider joining our team in our advocacy efforts this year.
The deadline to register is Thursday, April 10. Please seize this opportunity!
The SC chapter with assistance from the ACP is providing scholarships to students, residents, fellows-in-training and early career physicians to make attendance to Leadership Day 2025 possible. Emails with details of the scholarship have been sent to the respective groups.
Please visit the Leadership Day information page for more information about Leadership Day 2025.
If you have further questions, please contact ACP.
Act today! Your voice is needed on these urgent issues:
- Protect Patient Access to Care and Coverage for Medicaid Enrollees
- Urge Congress to support the Medicare Patient Access Practice Stabilization Act
- Support Funding for the NHSC and THCGME Programs
