GREETINGS

Greetings to all our ACP members and Internal Medicine colleagues! I have the privilege of succeeding the talented Dr. Aman Nijjar as the next ACP Governor for British Columbia for a 4-year term. We plan to continue to distribute the newsletter twice annually, and I invite news and comment from you at any time mckeemd@telus.net

Like me, many of you have just returned from the ACP Annual Meeting, held in April in downtown Boston. As usual, the conference was fast paced with updates in clinical practice, education and more technology (Eric Topol delivered the keynote address on the promise and the limits of Artificial Intelligence in medicine). I was struck by how invigorating it is to be surrounded by bright and enthusiastic internists, who clearly care about the profession and its future. For anyone suffering burnout pangs and wondering if there is real meaning in what we offer, I suggest a professional meeting with your IM colleagues at an ACP or CSIM program or our very own regional Rocky Mountain IM Conference (see calendar below) as a rewarding way to reconnect.

The ACP in Canada has recently been restructured. Provincial Chapters have been consolidated for better efficiency and communication. The breakdown is as follows:

  • Prairie Provinces Chapter: AB, SK, MB
  • Atlantic Provinces Chapter: NB, NS, PEI, NL
  • BC, QC, and ON remain stand-alone chapters. Internists in the Territories can join with any of the Chapters most aligned with their interests.

ACP membership includes much more than camaraderie and inspiration. For example, the new and perpetually improving DynaMedex remains a free resource with reliable editorial oversight, already helping to fill the gap created by the recent closure of the high-quality CPSBC Library. See the link below in order to try the tutorial and personalize your alerts.

The BC Chapter Council is currently re-structuring and, we will communicate with you again, so you are aware of the full Chapter Leadership structure.

Finally, our congratulations to Casey Chan, FACP, and Mina Aziz, FACP, both elected to Fellowship in the past six months.
