GOVERNOR'S MESSAGE

Hello to all our ACP colleagues,

2024 is drawing to a close, and we have much to be thankful for in our professional lives. I just returned from the annual Rocky Mountain Internal Medicine meeting held in Canmore in November. This well-run, energetic event featured a timely keynote on Artificial Intelligence led by James Whitfill, an Arizona internist and Chief Transformation Officer at his Scottsdale hospital system. Digital health, driven by AI and increasing investment in health care analytics, will be (is!) one of our next tools for optimizing health care delivery in Canada. For a brief and current summary: https://youtu.be/G0ZRrPvYXgo.

I am continually impressed by the dedication and leadership of our membership and am especially pleased to announce Dr Michael Kenyon from Nanaimo as the recipient of the 2024 ACP Laureate Award! Dr Kenyon has been instrumental as a leader in education, policy and advocacy over a long career. We are grateful for all he has accomplished on behalf of IM in our province. Congratulations, Dr Kenyon!

We are assembling a team for the Doctor's Dilemma event at the National meeting in New Orleans from April 3-5, 2025. The BC Chapter intends to continue partial financial support for residents travelling to the meeting for either this competition, or for poster/research presentations. The BC Chapter Council continues to meet twice annually to consider the priorities of our Chapter.

We are currently seeking a Well-Being Champion (WBC) to undertake ACP-sponsored training to support the evolving wellness needs of ACP members and their communities. The 2025 curriculum will be held as mixed-mode training with a new online curriculum, live virtual, and opportunity for additional in-person leadership training. WBC Training (12 hours) will be held from April through June 2025, with additional leadership training in April 2026. Please contact me at mckeemd@telus.net if you are interested in this academically rigorous opportunity.

Season's greetings to all!
